It's a Southern Thang!!!

We all have traditions and things we do different, but how much of it was just from where we grew up. My DH was born in IN and has lived in FL, northern AL, and OH. He wasn't brought up to say his sirs and mams or some of the other southern traditions. He isn't use to going places where you always run into someone you know. He has never grown up around family and my family is very close. He is very quiet and doesn't have much to say about anything unless you ask him. Don't get me wrong he and I talk a lot about anything and everything, but when it comes to going places and being in crowds he just doesn't have much to say. Me on the other hand after I get to know someone I have LOTS to say. You see he and I met online in a chatroom and we chatted a lot. Our first phone call was 5 hours long. We will get invited to things and I will tell him that we need to get a gift for this and he doesn't understand that we need to do that. He thinks that we shouldn't get a gift unless we are planning to attend the event. Where being from the south...it is tradition that if you get invited to something and it is something where gifts would be given then you purchase a gift even if you are unable to attend the event. Another thing that drives him nuts is when someone...as he says.."does the lineage thing"...meaning when they spend as he puts it 10 minutes to tell you how someone is related to someone or who someone is. There are other traditions that are just "southern thangs" that makes him shake his head, but these are just ones that we have talked about recently so I thought I would do a blog entry on this. Now that he has been behind me while I write this, he says I am making him not sound very nice. He is very nice and very thoughtful...he just doesn't always understand southern thangs.. ;)
